The foundation of any business is customers, sales, and efficiency. Back in 2011, I started building my own contact database in the construction industry. I began the old-fashioned way—going to the library and reviewing building permits. From there, I gathered the names of general contractors and started cold-calling, asking if I could bid on the projects they had recently permitted.
Each call typically gave me one contact. But I quickly realized that building a sustainable business this way would take forever—let alone a business that could support a team.
So I turned to technology. I started using Salesforce as my CRM. Between 2011 and 2014, there was a Salesforce integration tool called DataImport. With it, I could buy contacts with email addresses for about $2.50 to $3 each and import them directly into my CRM. I would research companies, evaluate the listed contacts, and selectively import the ones I wanted to reach. That helped me grow my contact list to around 5,000.
Over the next 10 years, we sent thousands of emails to those contacts asking if we could bid on their projects. Often, they’d reply by referring us to their coworkers who were actually managing the job. That process alone tripled the size of our contact database.
Because construction is a high-turnover industry, people frequently change companies. That’s why consistent outreach is so important—not only to find new opportunities but also to clean out outdated contacts and bounced emails. We prioritize collecting names, email addresses, and cell phone numbers over office lines to stay connected even when people move on.
That process laid the foundation for Ganarpro Enrich—our proprietary dataset of verified construction contacts. While you can’t directly integrate your CRM with Enrich, you can filter and segment the contacts you want, download the list to Ganarpro CRM, and send emails directly through our platform. Or, if you prefer, you can export your contacts to a spreadsheet and import them into your own CRM.
